Role Overview

The Junior Process Engineer based in Edmonton will support the Energy team by applying fundamental process engineering methodologies in project and design activities. Assignments involve engineering calculations, data analysis, process design contributions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, clients, and field personnel to ensure smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct process discipline work including preparation, review, and interpretation of calculations, specifications, plans, and systems with basic complexity.
• Engage in process design efforts such as simulations, conceptual sketches, and layout creation.
• Utilize engineering software tools to develop solutions.
• Prepare or review engineering studies, reports, process specifications, and design calculations.
• Contribute to equipment design and development.
• Create drawings, including process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and data flow diagrams (DPDTs).
• Collaborate effectively with various engineering disciplines including piping, plant layout, mechanical, civil, control systems, and electrical.
• Review design documents from equipment manufacturers or subcontractors and provide feedback and recommendations.
• Serve as a cooperative and integral team member within the home office engineering group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related engineering/scientific field from an accredited institution.
• Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the relevant provincial regulatory authority (e.g., APEGA) and a path toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensure is mandatory.
• At least 3 years of pertinent industry experience in design engineering, systems startup, field engineering, plant operations, utilities, process facilities, or engineering/construction settings; or new graduates are welcome.
• Previous practical experience such as summer internships or related engineering roles will be advantageous.
• Strong understanding of process engineering concepts including calculations, systems, equipment, PFDs, P&IDs, plant layouts, material choices, and computer-based engineering applications.
