Role Overview

As a Mechanical Engineer at Gerrits Engineering Limited, you will be engaged in the design and development of building mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include performing necessary calculations, producing comprehensive drawings and specifications, and working closely with electrical, structural, and civil engineering teams. You will also review project requirements, create mechanical layouts, and utilize CAD software to develop precise designs. In addition, the position involves participating in project meetings, liaising with clients and external partners, and assisting with project management activities such as scheduling, documentation, and quality control processes. Supporting ongoing research and development efforts aimed at advancing design standards and incorporating new technologies will also be a key component of your work. This is a full-time role based in Barrie, Ontario, requiring in-office presence regularly, with some remote work flexibility.

Qualifications

• A solid background in Mechanical Engineering with experience related to building services or analogous mechanical systems.
• Proficient application of engineering principles in machine design to create practical, safe, and efficient mechanical solutions.
• Experience using CAD software tools for developing detailed mechanical drawings and models.
• Capability to support project management tasks such as coordination, scheduling, documentation, and communication with stakeholders.
• Interest or experience in research and development to improve design methodologies and integrate innovative technology.
• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely allied field; eligibility to pursue P.Eng. licensure in Ontario is advantageous.
• Familiarity with applicable building codes, standards, and industry best practices relevant to mechanical systems in commercial and residential projects.
• Strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Prior experience in Canadian consulting engineering environments or similar professional contexts is a plus.
