About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Manager to join a leading engineering firm specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK. This permanent position is based in County Louth and offers a salary of €75,000 per year. Our client is known for delivering sustainable and innovative municipal and industrial water infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical aspects of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, from design coordination to installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Collaborate within a unified project team fostering a "one team" culture.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all mechanical works for wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and process installations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards, along with company procedures and legal requirements on all active sites.
- Coordinate communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage subcontractors and in-house labor to accomplish tasks safely, efficiently, to specification, and aligned with project timelines.
- Supervise installation and integration of mechanical process equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing systems, tanks, HVAC, and odor control systems.
- Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, control automation, process, and civil disciplines to coordinate interfaces and smooth project delivery.
- Monitor project schedules to detect risks and delays, implementing mitigation strategies promptly.
- Apply best practice construction management techniques including Lean Construction and the Last Planner collaborative planning method.
- Assist in procuring mechanical materials and subcontract packages ensuring technical compliance, cost effectiveness, and timely delivery.
- Support financial management including budgeting, cost control, forecasting, valuations, variations, and subcontractor account management.
- Provide regular project updates to senior management covering progress, financial status, safety, quality, risks, and resources.
- Coordinate mechanical testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and validation to ensure successful client handover.
- Ensure all quality assurance and inspection documentation, test packs, and operation & maintenance manuals are completed per project requirements.
- Support site safety obligations including PSDP/PSCS compliance and maintaining required safety permits.
- Mentor and provide guidance to team members.
- Contribute to tendering and pre-construction processes as needed.
- Maintain strong relationships with all project stakeholders and respond to technical queries and client needs effectively.
- Stay updated on industry trends, mechanical technologies, wastewater treatment processes, and relevant Irish and European standards through continuous professional development.
- Perform additional duties as appropriate to support operational needs.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years' experience in a similar mechanical project management role; experience in water/wastewater highly preferred.
- Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Chemistry with substantial relevant industry experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013; certification in Managing Safely for Construction Managers is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven expertise in mechanical engineering tasks.
- Strong negotiation skills with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors on financial matters and final accounts.
- Proficiency in programme management tools such as Microsoft Project for baseline scheduling and progress updates.
- Good command of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use initiative, solve problems, and adapt to challenges during project execution.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with high personal motivation.
- Holder of a full valid driving license.
