Position Summary

The U.S. Pacific Fleet seeks a Security Specialist to oversee physical security measures and classified material protection at Garden Island, Western Australia. This role includes acting as the Foreign Disclosure Officer (FDO) for PDA/SRF West and supporting personnel security programs. The specialist will conduct facility inspections, enforce security protocols, and manage controlled areas for nuclear and sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the Foreign Disclosure Officer (FDO) for PDA/SRF West.
Perform inspections of facilities and offices outside regular hours as requested.
Ensure security safeguards are established for classified and NNPI materials before designating Controlled Nuclear Information Areas, Nuclear Work Areas, and Secure Rooms.
Interpret and apply physical security policies and develop daily procedures to ensure compliance.
Conduct security surveillance to confirm adherence to policies and rules.
Assist the Personnel Security Manager in upholding respective security programs at the detachments.

Candidate Requirements and Conditions

Must be a United States citizen and suitable for federal employment.
Participation in direct deposit payment is mandatory.
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment check.
Meet time-in-grade requirements if currently a federal employee.
Position is overseas, requiring compliance with overseas employment directives and local laws.
Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the continental U.S., including remote sites, possibly via military and commercial aircraft.
Obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport and possibly a visa, depending on host country regulations.
Sign acknowledgment of overseas living and working conditions.
Comply with selective service for males born post-1959 and maintain required security clearances and a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Undergo pre-appointment physical examination and pre-employment drug testing; subject to random testing post-hire.
Complete mandated training and maintain government credit card for travel expenses.

Qualifications

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 level within federal service or comparable private/public sector experience.
Experience managing or leading teams, including informal leadership or shift leading roles.
Proficient understanding of security protocols, emergency responses, incident reporting, and using surveillance and access control technologies.
Knowledge of risk assessments, threat detection, and security operations.
Ability to conduct training, communicate effectively, and lead team activities.
Experience with security software, investigative techniques, and report documentation.
