Role Overview
This is a full-time, 2-year fixed-term position located at AUT's City Campus. As a Senior Developer within the AI Acceleration Centre, you will contribute to shaping innovative digital experiences for students and staff by leveraging cutting-edge software development and AI technology. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams in an Agile setting to design, develop, and maintain scalable, AI-enabled digital applications spanning web, mobile, and cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement modern software solutions leveraging AI-assisted tools to enhance the university's digital services.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other developers to deliver reliable, maintainable, and secure software.
- Lead technical design, prototyping, deployment, and continuous improvement across software projects.
- Mentor and guide junior and intermediate developers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practices.
- Contribute to the establishment and refinement of engineering standards and Agile development processes within the AI Acceleration Centre.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a relevant tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related fields.
- Possesses at least 6 years of professional software development experience.
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in designing and maintaining modern software solutions in professional environments.
- Experienced in building APIs and system integrations for reliable platform interoperability.
- Skilled in contemporary development methods including version control, testing, peer reviews, Agile workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiar with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Technical expertise in C#/.NET, TypeScript, React or Next.js, React Native, Azure SQL, and RESTful API development.
- Understands principles of software architecture emphasizing scalability, maintainability, and supportability.
- Has awareness of cybersecurity best practices and common application security vulnerabilities.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) is advantageous.

Additional Information
- Working hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
- Start date: As soon as possible, mutually agreed.
- Salary range: NZD 110000 to 131000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
