Role overview
Bank of America is hiring an Equity Research Analyst/Associate to support a Senior Biotechnology Analyst on a team covering AI-enabled drug discovery, gene editing, and oncology. The position is centered on deep-dive biotech research, financial analysis, and client-facing support.
What you will do
You will conduct detailed fundamental research on biotechnology companies and relevant sub-sectors, build and refresh financial models, and help shape the team’s written research output. The role also includes tracking public and private biotech companies, contributing to coverage ideas, and helping assess potential follow-on and IPO opportunities.
- Draft periodic industry and company research reports, including new coverage launch notes.
- Carry out advanced financial modeling and valuation analysis.
- Create and maintain databases that support research coverage.
- Apply sound commercial judgment and strong understanding of the sector.
- Partner with senior analysts to develop major industry themes.
- Build and maintain relationships with company contacts to improve information flow.
- Support client meetings, events, and discussions.
- Attend meetings with key opinion leaders and participate actively.
- Track market, industry, and company developments closely and share insights with the analyst while traveling.
- Identify unusual and non-traditional information sources.
- Use the firm’s network of industry contacts to strengthen research.
- Communicate regularly with clients.
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate has strong exposure to the biotechnology industry, preferably through equity research, investment banking, or consulting. A PhD, MD, MBA, or CFA would be an advantage because it helps accelerate learning and strengthens communication with companies and clients, but it is not mandatory.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced scientific or business qualifications are highly valued.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, preferably outside academia in biopharma, research, banking, or consulting.
- Excellent writing ability and advanced spreadsheet skills; strong command of MS Word and MS Excel is essential.
- Genuinely curious, eager to learn, and comfortable with intensive research.
- Enjoys working with industry databases, websites, and both desktop and field research.
- Strong financial modeling capability.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills.
- Sharp attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Team-oriented and able to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
- Able to perform well in a fast-moving, demanding environment.
Work location and schedule
This is an in-office position based at the New York City financial center at One Bryant Park. The shift is first shift (United States of America), and the expected working time is 40 hours per week.
Additional notes
The role supports both public-company coverage and evaluation of private biotech companies for possible follow-ons and IPOs. Candidates should be prepared for a high-intensity, fast-paced research environment.
