Building Code Compliance Expert

Role overview

This contract opportunity is for a Building Code Compliance Expert who will work remotely and support construction projects by reviewing plans, interpreting regulations, and advising on code-related matters. The assignment calls for around 10 to 40 hours per week, with compensation set at $50 to $80 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Examine architectural and engineering drawings to determine whether proposed work aligns with applicable building codes.
• Review blueprints, permit paperwork, zoning rules, and other construction records to understand compliance requirements.
• Evaluate code-driven situations and provide practical, well-reasoned guidance on how to meet regulatory standards.
• Spot permit gaps, code breaches, and other compliance risks in both residential and commercial developments.
• Work with architects, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and permitting specialists to clarify and resolve code questions.
• Prepare concise written findings and explanations that summarize code interpretation and compliance outcomes.

Required background

• Proven hands-on experience with building codes, permits, inspections, zoning, or plan checking.
• Ability to read construction drawings and technical documents accurately.
• Prior exposure to residential and/or commercial building projects.
• Strong analytical thinking, issue-solving ability, and communication skills.
• Comfort working independently in a remote setup while handling several tasks at once.
• Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders across project teams.
