Role overview
Nottinghamshire County Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Commissioning Officer to join its Commissioning & Placements Group within Children, Families and Cultural Services. This post plays a key part in commissioning, procurement, and financial oversight of education, care, and support placements for children and young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs, disabilities, SEMH needs, and complex support requirements.

Main duties
- Work with education, social care, health, provider, and family partners to help secure provision that is safe, appropriate, and cost-effective.
- Handle placement enquiries and ensure providers receive clear and accurate information.
- Track commissioned services and assist with managing budgets.
- Review and interpret complex information to support decisions and improve services.
- Develop effective partnerships that strengthen delivery and outcomes.
What the council is looking for
- A qualification at degree level, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Practical understanding of SEND, safeguarding, procurement, and budget monitoring.
- Previous experience in strategic or operational commissioning within local authority, health, or housing environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Good analytical ability and confidence in working with data.
- An organised, solution-oriented approach to challenges.
- A clear commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people, and families.
Working arrangement and package
This is a permanent full-time post based at County Hall, West Bridgford, NG2 7QP, with hybrid working arrangements. The role is 37 hours per week and sits at Competency Framework Tier 7b. There is 1 vacancy available.
Salary is £34,434 to £39,152 per annum.
