Role overview
The Hardware Technician will deliver both on-site and remote support to customers in the region. The role includes deploying new and upgraded systems at mine sites, carrying out basic troubleshooting, configuring system software and computer operating systems, and creating procedures and reports based on customer needs. The position requires a strong understanding of the deployed mining systems and the ability to act as an escalation point for technical issues during project work.
What you will do
- Support customers remotely and at site, including system deployment and basic technical assistance.
- Assist with the installation of new and upgraded solutions at mining locations.
- Carry out troubleshooting, software setup, and operating system configuration on field and server equipment.
- Prepare procedures, system documentation, and reports in response to customer requirements.
- Serve as an escalation contact for technical problems raised by the project team.
- Work with project managers to help deliver mining system deployments on schedule and within budget.
- Review project proposals and plans together with colleagues and customers.
- Define project phases, elements, and timelines, and support project execution from start to finish.
- Study product design, customer requirements, and performance expectations to determine technical specifications.
- Prepare cost estimates and support project planning.
- Load basic configurations, operating systems, and upgrades according to change management procedures.
- Track project progress, coordinate activities, and help resolve issues to keep work on course.
- Administer service agreements and maintain a database of deployed systems and configurations.
- Enter, back up, and manage data, and contribute to related technical tasks as needed.
- Build strong working relationships with supervisors, project engineers, managers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
- Identify risks, inefficiencies, issues, and opportunities in business applications and project delivery.
- Monitor the market for new solutions and recommend improvements that could shorten the project cycle.
- Work in line with Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, Ethics, and Compliance policies.
- Follow site rules and regulations, including safety, procedural, and customer-specific requirements.
- Report unsafe behaviour, noncompliance, or other issues that could affect safety or the company’s reputation.
- Maintain a safe working environment and suggest improvements to health and safety procedures.
- Continuously look for ways to improve system quality, installations, and support processes.
What we are looking for
This role suits someone with experience applying technology in harsh industrial environments and working in customer-focused settings. You should be able to diagnose problems quickly, communicate clearly with people at different technical levels, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The job may involve office-based work as well as field deployment in challenging conditions such as heat, dust, noise, and working at heights.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Engineering (Computer, Mining, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical) or a related discipline.
- At least 2 years of experience in the mining industry or in a similar hardware installation and maintenance role.
- Strong analytical ability to identify and resolve issues quickly.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and respond to clients with different levels of technical knowledge.
- Experience in a customer-oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure and configuration.
- Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with customers.
- Comfortable working alone and within a team.
- Experience with documentation, safety management, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Capacity to rapidly understand technical solutions, concepts, and products.
- Fluency in English; French is an advantage.
- Experience working with remote teams is highly desirable.
- Willingness to work weekends when required and travel to different sites, including locations outside the country.
- Must have a current passport and a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
