Role Overview
This position is for a Mechanical Engineering lead based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, supporting the design and execution of process and utility packages for large industrial projects. The role focuses on guiding mechanical engineering activities end to end, coordinating with internal teams and external partners, and ensuring that design deliverables are completed on schedule, within quality standards, and with strong attention to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of mechanical engineering work for process and utility packages such as water systems, gas systems, ASUs, process exhaust, PUW, ETP, STP, and HVAC.
- Work closely with engineering, EPC suppliers, and consultants to keep project design and engineering activities moving on time.
- Contribute to plant layout development at both concept and detailed engineering stages.
- Handle mechanical and piping system knowledge across metallic and non-metallic services, including high-purity and ultra-high-purity applications.
- Examine engineering design bases, tender documents, technical bid evaluations, vendor print reviews, and approvals for mechanical equipment and packages.
- Prepare and review as-built engineering documents for equipment and packages.
- Coordinate across civil, electrical, and control & instrumentation teams to close out design and engineering decisions.
- Bring prior exposure to utility project engineering and working knowledge of international codes and standards.
- Use engineering tools and software such as PV Lite, AutoCAD, SP3D, PDS, and RAVIT where needed.
- Coordinate with site commissioning and erection teams, and resolve site engineering issues, including design change reviews with OEMs, consultants, and process licensors.
- Ensure quality checks across engineering deliverables and track project progress through weekly, fortnightly, and monthly reports.
- Confirm that timelines and budget expectations are met.
- Apply strong safety practices when selecting mechanical equipment so that site risks are minimized.
- Share progress MIS updates with senior management as per schedule.
- Drive team targets and support delivery momentum.
- Provide training and guidance to site teams and GETs.
- Promote safety awareness and implementation across activities.
- Work with HSE, QMS, HAZOP, safety study, and value engineering requirements.
- Follow all applicable HSE and QMS compliance requirements.
- Support statutory approval processes with relevant authorities.
Qualifications and Experience
The role requires a B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, along with 10 to 15 years of experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked on utility packages for large-scale solar projects, semiconductor projects, or similar industrial environments.
