Lead Pastor

Position Summary

Gracepoint Community Church is seeking a Lead Pastor to provide spiritual direction, organizational leadership, preaching, and pastoral care for the congregation. The person in this role will help guide the church to live out its mission of encountering God and serving the world together, while encouraging people toward a life of following Jesus.

Working alongside the Leadership Team, church staff, and the wider congregation, the Lead Pastor will help shape a Christ-focused church culture grounded in Scripture, discipleship, and connection with the community.

Key Responsibilities

Spiritual Leadership and Teaching

• Guide the church in reading, understanding, and living out Scripture through preaching, teaching, and spiritual direction.
• Prepare and deliver sermons and sermon series that are biblically rooted, led by the Spirit, and aligned with the Christian calendar.
• Maintain fidelity to the historic Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith, the theological standards of the BCMB, and evangelical theology.
• Take part in regular theological review processes that support shared accountability and doctrinal alignment.
• Demonstrate a lifestyle marked by prayer, disciple-making, and Christlike character.

Vision and Strategic Leadership

• Work with the Leadership Team to discern and carry out God’s direction for Gracepoint.
• Lead the annual strategic planning process and help implement ministry initiatives approved in the plan.

Leadership Development and Team Oversight

• Provide direction, coaching, and accountability to church staff and ministry leaders.
• Build a team culture characterized by encouragement, clarity, and collaboration.
• Identify and nurture emerging leaders within the congregation.

Pastoral Care and Congregational Health

• Partner with Gracepoint staff to oversee pastoral care ministries such as visitation, counseling, and crisis response.
• Lead weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion services.
• Help create a church environment that is warm, spiritually healthy, and welcoming.
• Encourage church unity, biblical conflict resolution, peacemaking, and healthy relationships.

Ministry Oversight

• Support Sunday morning gatherings in collaboration with Gracepoint ministry leaders.
• Help ensure strong quality across worship services and church-wide ministry activities.
• Oversee alignment between ministries and the church’s mission and values.

Community Engagement and Outreach

• Partner with the Pastor of Community Development to strengthen Gracepoint’s involvement in the local community and global mission.
• Encourage outreach, witness, and compassionate service.
• Represent Gracepoint within the BCMB network and the broader Christian community.

Financial Health

• Work with the Finance Team and Committee to develop and recommend the annual budget in line with the church’s mission, vision, and ministry priorities.
• Provide oversight and accountability so that resources are stewarded well and ministries remain within approved budget limits.
• Promote a culture of generosity through teaching and by supporting giving and development initiatives that sustain the church’s mission long term.

Qualifications and Requirements

Spiritual and Character Qualifications

• Shows a mature and steadily growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Is committed to biblical authority.
• Meets leadership standards expected for pastoral ministry, including those reflected in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

Education and Experience

• Formal theological education is preferred, ideally at the graduate degree or doctorate level in theology or ministry.
• Brings at least 5 years of proven experience in pastoral leadership, preaching, and team development.
• Experience leading a growing, multi-generational church will be considered an advantage.

Credentialing

• Must be eligible for, or already hold, pastoral credentialing with the BCMB.

Reporting and Accountability

The Lead Pastor reports to the Gracepoint Leadership Team (Elders/Board) and is expected to remain aligned with church vision, priorities, and ministry direction. Regular updates on ministry activity, operational health, and strategic progress are required. The role also includes active participation in Leadership Team meetings, contributing to discernment, decision-making, and church governance. Ongoing feedback, annual review, and a posture of humility and growth are part of the accountability structure.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time pastoral position with a schedule that is flexible and varied. Availability during evenings, weekends, and pastoral emergencies is required. The role also involves active participation in church life and in community engagement.

Compensation and Application

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000.
