About Watercare
Watercare is entering a major growth and resilience phase, with plans to invest $14 billion across the next 10 years to support Auckland's expanding population in a climate-resilient way. That works out to roughly $3.8 million invested every day.
About the role
We are looking for a Nerve Centre Operator to provide monitoring and coordination support for water supply and wastewater operations and maintenance teams. The role sits within Watercare's new, modern Nerve Centre, a collaborative environment that uses developing technology to support strong operations and excellent customer service. As the centre continues to evolve, there will be opportunities to grow with it.
What you'll do
- Track water and wastewater operations, handle alarms, arrange work, and coordinate with maintenance contractors.
- Watch and assess information from SCADA systems and raise issues when needed.
- Support monitoring of people, assets, and security systems.
- Keep communication flowing between different parts of the business unit.
- Make sure data is captured and recorded in line with operations and control needs.
- Enter information manually if system failure causes data loss.
- Take calls from staff, contractors, and escalation contacts and respond appropriately.
- Use radio equipment to contact staff and manage emergency situations.
- Build productive working relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
What we're looking for
- Hands-on experience with computerized database systems, including SCADA.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize effectively while managing multiple events.
- Background in a technical setting such as trade, engineering, or technical operations.
- At least 3 years of experience in a process control or production control environment.
- Availability to work rotating shifts on a 24/7 roster and provide on-call support.
What we offer
- Competitive pay and a staff benefits package.
- Training and development opportunities.
- Life and income protection insurance.
- Generous parental leave.
- Employee discounts with a range of major retailers.
