Role overview

Mott MacDonald is expanding its Advisory team in Auckland and is seeking a Project Controller to help deliver major infrastructure work across New Zealand. This position offers the chance to develop capability in project controls by working across cost, schedule, and performance from the outset.

Mott MacDonald New Zealand is an employee-owned consultancy in engineering, management, and development, partnering with prominent clients throughout Aotearoa. The organisation focuses on creating positive social outcomes and improving society through its work.

This opportunity is well suited to someone with experience in project coordination, project administration, or early project controls who is ready to progress into a broader controls role.

What the role involves

In this role, you will help project teams plan, monitor, and report on delivery performance. You will work alongside project managers, engineers, and other specialists to support projects being completed on schedule, within budget, and to the expected standard.

  • Help establish and maintain project schedules and budgets
  • Contribute to project reporting and tracking of performance
  • Watch project progress and flag emerging risks or issues
  • Assist with cost monitoring, forecasting, and change control
  • Use tools such as Excel, MS Project, and Power BI to support analysis and reporting
  • Work collaboratively with project teams and clients to support successful delivery

About you

The ideal candidate has experience in project coordination, project administration, or project controls. Exposure to infrastructure, engineering, or consulting settings is preferred, though not essential.

You should bring strong attention to detail, the ability to handle several priorities at once, comfort working with data and reporting tools, and good communication skills. A collaborative approach and a desire to build a career in project controls are important.

Why join Mott MacDonald

You will be trusted with meaningful work that contributes to real outcomes. The team offers a supportive and collaborative environment, the chance to work on infrastructure projects that affect communities across New Zealand, and a strong focus on flexibility and wellbeing.

The company also supports learning and development to help advance your career, and its employee ownership model gives staff a share in collective success.

Employee ownership

  • The business has no external investors, which helps create a culture of shared success.
  • Employees have a stake and a voice in the organisation, linked to personal and group performance bonuses.
  • As your career develops, your stake grows to reflect your long-term contribution and impact.
  • There are formal channels to connect with senior leadership and help influence the organisation’s future.

Benefits

  • A flexible, agile working environment that supports both your career and important life moments
  • A competitive salary, plus discretionary group and personal performance bonuses for eligible employees
  • Insurance coverage including life, personal accident, and salary continuance cover for added peace of mind
  • The option to purchase extra annual leave to improve work-life balance
  • Access to employee resource groups, including the Inclusive Network for Women and Corporate Social Responsibility groups
