Role Overview
Amentum is hiring a Switchboard Operator to support a specialized U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. This position is centered on managing telephone communications efficiently, directing calls correctly, and providing dependable support in a demanding operational setting.
What You’ll Do
- Run the switchboard and professionally handle incoming, outgoing, and internal calls.
- Route inquiries to the right team member or department and make sure questions are resolved quickly and accurately.
- Use a solid understanding of site operations to provide callers with clear and useful information.
- Record and monitor calls when needed and share updates on their status.
- Support emergency communication activities and give priority to urgent calls according to escalation rules.
- Keep the contact directory current so calls are connected without delay or error.
- Manage confidential and sensitive information with care and discretion.
- Deliver strong customer service while responding to caller questions, requests, and complaints.
- Follow established procedures for proper use, upkeep, and basic troubleshooting of switchboard systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 1 to 3 years of experience in switchboard operations or a customer service environment.
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong command of English in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and pronunciation.
- Excellent communication and people skills for managing large call volumes professionally.
- Ability to solve problems and handle multiple tasks while prioritizing calls effectively.
- Calm, professional approach when working under pressure or in stressful situations.
- Basic ability to use telecommunication equipment and general office technology.
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.
- Passport must have at least one year of validity at the time of hire.
- Must be able to meet contract medical requirements and continue meeting them throughout deployment.
Preferred Experience
- Background in an austere OCONUS environment working with a multinational workforce.
- Valid country driver’s license and passport.
- Country visa, where required under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Experience with telecommunications systems in a government or military setting.
- Working knowledge of telecom troubleshooting and phone system maintenance.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of calls.
