Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate Business Intelligence Lead to transform data into actionable insights, guide analytics, streamline reporting, advance automation, and reinforce data governance. This role plays a critical part in shaping decision-making at all organizational layers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure management information is precise, comprehensive, reconciled, timely, and tailored to business needs.
- Enhance reporting processes by utilizing analytical tools, automation, and best-practice approaches.
- Develop and maintain business information solutions aligned with stakeholder requirements.
- Create and uphold documentation and procedures for management information.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to identify emerging data and reporting needs.
- Design, develop, and support enterprise-scale data pipelines and orchestration within the Microsoft Fabric platform.
- Build and maintain scalable data transformation solutions and medallion architectures.
- Develop and manage dataflows, notebooks, semantic models, warehouses, and related automation workflows.
- Administer Microsoft Fabric tenant and environments, including Power BI, overseeing capacities and consumption.
- Coordinate with IT to manage tenant configurations, security policies, and governance controls.
- Drive platform upgrades, adoption of features, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish operational standards for Fabric administration and implement role-based access control frameworks across Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
- Manage team identities to enable secure and scalable data access.
- Lead the deployment and ongoing oversight of Microsoft Purview and data governance frameworks.
- Mitigate data risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as CPG 235 by maintaining data accuracy, security, and governance.
- Work with stakeholders to align data initiatives with business needs and regulatory demands.
- Support audit, compliance, and risk management including regular security assessments.
- Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship, and development for the Business Intelligence team, including workload allocation and priority management.
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, plan development, and facilitate professional growth opportunities.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous enhancement, innovation, and accountability.
- Assist with workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and succession strategies.
- Offer technical leadership across BI, data engineering, and reporting disciplines.
Required Technical Skills
- Proficiency in enterprise data warehousing administration and development, especially with Microsoft Fabric.
- Advanced skills in Power BI administration, data modeling, and report creation.
- Strong SQL programming and troubleshooting expertise.
- Experience with Python for tasks such as data engineering, analytical processing, and automating workflows.
- Proven experience designing and managing data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, data transformations, semantic models, Power BI reports, and Power Automate workflows.
Leadership and Communication
- Proven capability in leading and mentoring teams focused on BI, reporting, or data functions.
- Excellent skills in stakeholder communication and relationship management.
- Ability to balance day-to-day operational reporting with strategic development of platforms.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Knowledge and experience in data governance and architecture, particularly with Microsoft Purview.
- Background in the life insurance sector with familiarity regarding policy administration, claims, underwriting, actuarial, and finance data domains.
- Experience working in environments regulated by APRA and understanding of CPS 230, CPS 234, CPG 235 and modern data governance standards.
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure, or Purview.
- Tertiary qualifications related to the field.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or Synapse Analytics platforms.
Location and Work Arrangement
While primarily based in Perth with opportunities for hybrid flexibility, candidates based in Sydney will also be considered.
