About the Role

Become a member of the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) team, where over 5,000 staff members contribute to positively impacting the lives of more than one million Maryland residents each year by delivering economic support, preventive services, and care for children and adults. Position Overview

This role, based at the Cecil County Department of Social Services in Elkton, MD, delivers IT support and services to internal staff involved in diverse social service programs. Key responsibilities include deploying, repairing, and maintaining a range of hardware and software such as PCs, laptops, iPads, VOIP phones, cell phones, copiers, and scanners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promptly address user work orders via the Help Ticket system, resolving hardware, software, and application issues professionally.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware vendors to troubleshoot and resolve system and equipment problems.
  • Repair malfunctioning devices including printers, computers, iPhones, and iPads where possible.
  • Install and upgrade software applications using Intune and Management Console; monitor for viruses and malware to ensure system security.
  • Train and reorient users on DHS system security protocols.
  • Maintain and configure the agency’s VOIP and automated telephone systems, including setup for new and existing employees.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot copiers under contract; coordinate with technicians as necessary, optimize copier networking for economic efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two and a half years of experience, including one year planning, integrating, and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area networks.
  • An additional 18 months of experience in programming, communications network maintenance, or evaluating and maintaining computer hardware/software, or appropriate substitution qualifications as listed below.

Substitution Options: Candidates may substitute relevant college credit in systems analysis or programming, certifications in network administration, related experience in operating systems and hardware maintenance, a bachelor's degree in IT-related fields with one year of network experience, or applicable U.S. military IT service experience on a year-for-year basis for part or all of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least six months of customer service experience in a help desk environment handling hardware and software issues.
  • Experience developing training materials and user guides to aid platform adoption.
  • Familiarity with LAN/WAN, cybersecurity, and platforms such as OneDrive, Google Suite, TEAMS, SharePoint, ServiceNow, Active Directory, Intune, Azure, and AI tools.
