About the Role

The Specialist Medicine Therapy Team at Royal Derby Hospital seeks a motivated and dynamic Therapy Assistant to collaborate closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and other support staff. This role involves aiding treatment across various specialities including Respiratory, Cardiology, Endocrine and Diabetes, Renal, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology.

Responsibilities

Working under supervision from qualified therapists, you will assist patients with daily living activities, mobility, and respiratory issues. Your duties will also involve some non-clinical tasks such as clerical work and housekeeping to support smooth departmental operations.

  • Support individual and group patients with functional activities like dressing, domestic tasks, exercise supervision, and preparation for treatments.
  • Promote patient independence through the use of daily living aids.
  • Identify signs of patient deterioration or contraindications and communicate these to therapists.
  • Gain informed consent through effective patient communication and work within legal frameworks when patients lack capacity.
  • Maintain accurate, current treatment records compliant with legal and departmental standards.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Basic proficiency in IT applications.
  • Recent experience in hospital or community settings, including moving and handling patients.
  • Organised and motivated with a passion for patient recovery and rehabilitation.
