About Aldermane
Aldermane is a distinguished project advisory company dedicated to enhancing Australia's security and prosperity by managing advanced Defence projects and major Government initiatives. Our vibrant team, consisting of lawyers, consultants, and project advisory experts, strives to provide innovative solutions for critical contracting, strategic, and security challenges faced by the Australian Defence Force.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, commercially savvy Human Resources Manager to lead and develop our HR function. This senior role entails overseeing all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, performance management, and personnel administration. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will deliver timely, practical, and commercially aligned HR advice, support Service Line Leads in achieving recruitment and retention objectives, and build scalable systems, policies, and governance for our expanding firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and continuously enhance the HR function, including creating HR systems, policies, templates, reporting mechanisms, and governance frameworks.
- Lead end-to-end talent acquisition: design roles, advertise jobs, source and assess candidates, conduct interviews, check references, extend offers, and handle employment documentation.
- Coordinate onboarding and induction to ensure new hires understand their responsibilities, performance expectations, company values, and workplace protocols.
- Manage probation periods, performance evaluations, promotions, remuneration reviews, and professional development initiatives, assisting leaders in setting clear goals and effectively managing performance issues.
- Develop and implement professional development, capability enhancement, succession planning, and career progression aligned with the firm's frameworks.
- Provide sound, practical advice on employee relations matters and handle sensitive issues discreetly, ensuring fairness and consistency.
- Identify and manage employee-related risks, including legal, operational, cultural, security, wellbeing, and reputational factors.
- Ensure compliance with Australian workplace laws, industrial agreements, employment contracts, policies, and record-keeping requirements.
- Prepare and deliver regular workforce updates, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior management.
- Maintain confidential and accurate personnel records including contracts, position descriptions, organisational charts, and HR information systems.
- Administer employee offboarding processes, managing resignations, terminations, exit interviews, knowledge transfer, access revocation, and recovery of company assets.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be approachable, confident, and experienced in senior HR generalist or employee relations roles. You must be adept at working with senior leaders and employees, managing complex or urgent issues with discretion. Extensive experience across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, policy development, and risk handling is essential.
A comprehensive understanding of Australian workplace relations legislation, modern awards, employment contracts, procedural fairness, and workplace policies is required. Experience within professional services, legal, consulting, Defence, or Government sectors is highly advantageous. Relevant tertiary qualifications in human resources, employment relations, law, business, or related fields are also desired.
Mandatory Requirement
Due to the nature of Aldermane's work, candidates must already hold or be willing to obtain an AGSVA-issued security clearance at least at the Baseline level.
Additional Information
This position offers a unique chance to develop and lead an HR function in a growing organisation, operating with substantial autonomy while delivering sound HR guidance aligned with the firm’s strategic goals.
