Job overview
This full-time permanent role sits within the Management Information Systems department and reports to the Head of MIS / IT Manager. Based in East Legon, Accra, Ghana, the position supports the organisation’s information systems, network setup, and data protection responsibilities. A key part of the job is maintaining and improving internal platforms such as the Sentinel Claims Intelligence system, administering the Active Directory environment and core infrastructure, and helping the company stay aligned with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). The role is important for keeping claims information accurate, systems running reliably, and sensitive data protected.
Systems development and maintenance
- Build, support, and improve in-house software and database solutions that power claims processing and management reporting, using MySQL and SQL Server.
- Maintain and expand automated batch queries and reporting processes across insured provider data, including scheduled monitoring tasks and report generation through Excel and email.
- Create and update internal applications and tools used for claims operations, HR/staff functions, and leadership reporting.
- Investigate problems in data flows when scheduled reports fail, including issues with query logic, date fields, column mapping, and SQL compatibility.
- Carry out regular testing, keep version records, and document internally developed systems.
Infrastructure and network administration
- Manage the organisation’s Active Directory environment, including user accounts, group policies, and access rights.
- Administer Unix/Linux servers and services, alongside Windows Server systems.
- Oversee the company’s network environment, covering LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi.
- Support email system administration, including deliverability, authentication settings, and mailbox management.
- Provide daily IT and helpdesk assistance to staff for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Maintain servers, desktop systems, and network devices, and assist with backups and disaster recovery processes.
Data protection and information security
- Help the organisation comply with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) by maintaining data processing records and supporting the Data Protection Officer role.
- Assist with security controls aligned to frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST CSF, and support vendor-led vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Watch for unusual system activity and support response actions for IT security incidents.
- Maintain access logs, permission/exclusion lists, and audit trails for key systems.
Reporting and stakeholder support
- Prepare management and regulatory reports from claims and healthcare utilisation data in Excel and PowerPoint for both internal and external audiences.
- Support the creation of branded documents and presentations for management, partner, and provider meetings.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers and external vendors on data transfers, system integration, and troubleshooting.
Education and certifications
A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS, or a related subject is required. Security-related certifications such as ISC2 CC or CompTIA Security+ are considered an advantage, and training or certification in data protection, such as Certified DPO, is also beneficial.
Experience
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or MIS, preferably in insurance, healthcare, or financial services. Practical experience in software development, SQL (MySQL and/or SQL Server), networking, and Windows Server / Active Directory administration is expected. Experience managing Unix/Linux systems is required, and exposure to building or supporting internal business applications is strongly preferred.
Technical skills
The role calls for strong capability in software development and SQL for data processing, reporting, and automation. A solid grasp of Unix/Linux administration is necessary, along with good knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting, including LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, switches, firewalls, and Wi-Fi. Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server environments is also needed. Understanding of email protocols such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, plus basic cybersecurity practices, is important. Good command of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is expected for automated and branded reporting.
Personal attributes
The successful applicant should demonstrate integrity and discretion when working with sensitive claims and personal information. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability are essential. The person should be able to work independently, juggle multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with non-technical colleagues. A willingness to keep learning is important, and continued professional development toward an MSc in Information Security or a similar qualification is viewed positively.
How to apply
Interested candidates should send a CV and cover letter by email to hrldomain@gmail.com.
