Role Overview
The Plant Manager will oversee the efficient management, upkeep, tracking, and deployment of all construction plant, machinery, tools, and equipment owned by the company. This role ensures assets are maintained in safe and optimal condition, utilized effectively, and available on demand to support project execution. Close collaboration with project teams, suppliers, and service providers is essential for managing asset control, preventive maintenance, procurement, and compliance. Leveraging systems like Hilti ON!Track for asset management, the Plant Manager drives operational efficiency and cost reduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the company’s construction machinery, plant, tools, and equipment fleet.
- Coordinate allocation, mobilization, and demobilization of plant and equipment at project sites.
- Maintain precise asset records utilizing Hilti ON!Track software.
- Track equipment utilization and identify efficiency improvements.
- Plan and schedule routine maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and statutory inspection requirements for all plant.
- Manage repairs and resolve equipment breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
- Oversee procurement, disposal, and long-term replacement strategies for equipment.
- Conduct regular audits and inventories of plant and tools.
- Monitor fuel consumption, operational costs, maintenance expenditures, and overall plant performance.
- Investigate issues such as missing, damaged, or underused assets and implement corrective measures.
- Collaborate with project managers, site managers, procurement, and logistics to guarantee equipment availability.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers, service support, and rental companies.
- Compile and present monthly reports on utilization, maintenance, costs, and asset performance.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures for effective asset management and plant operations.
- Lead plant yard staff, mechanics, and equipment coordinators where applicable.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience managing plant in the construction sector.
- Demonstrated expertise handling construction equipment and heavy machinery operations.
- Strong understanding of equipment maintenance schedules and asset lifecycle processes.
- Proficient in using Hilti ON!Track asset management software.
- Solid knowledge of construction-related health and safety regulations.
- Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Excel, Word, and reporting tools.
- Valid driving licence is mandatory.
