About Dyson and the Role
Dyson's Commodity Management team is central to its Global Supply Chain, responsible for managing the component technologies integral to future products. The Direct Procurement team spans all commodities and ensures the supply network is technically capable, commercially competitive, resilient, and aligned with Dyson’s technology trajectory.
This position, Global Commodity Manager (Electronics), requires ownership of the commercial strategy and supply readiness of a critical electronic commodity used in Dyson's global products. You will be the lead commercial liaison with suppliers, aiming for competitive sourcing and dual sourcing wherever possible to minimize supply risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement long-term strategies for electronic component commodities consistent with category demands, technology plans, and product development pipelines.
- Maintain an Approved Vendor List (AVL) ensuring suppliers meet technical suitability, commercial competitiveness, and strategic alignment.
- Promote dual-sourcing and alternate component approaches to bolster supply chain resilience, cost efficiency, and operational flexibility.
- Work collaboratively with Research, Development, and Design (RDD) teams to influence component choices ensuring adherence to cost, quality, and technical specifications.
- Oversee qualification of components including alternatives to mitigate risk or reduce costs.
- Lead supplier negotiations and establish contractual agreements securing optimal costs, performance, and commercial conditions.
- Perform cost benchmarking and manage Price Performance Variance (PPV), including decision-making on risk-buy options for key elements.
- Manage commercial risks with contract manufacturers regarding liabilities from cancellations, rescheduling, and changing demands.
- Conduct supplier and component risk assessments, coordinating with other procurement managers to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with supply chain teams to handle demand fluctuations, expedite urgent materials, and address allocation challenges.
- Ensure supplier capacity planning and business continuity align with anticipated growth.
- Serve as the global coordinator on electronics procurement topics, aligning efforts with engineering, quality, operations, logistics, finance, and upstream functions.
- Drive visibility and transparency on supplier performance, potential risks, and opportunities to all global stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with suppliers fostering innovation, cost reductions, and competitive advantages.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in global commodity management, preferably in electronics, semiconductors, sensors, or display sectors.
- Track record of both strategic and tactical procurement successes including sourcing, negotiations, cost control, and supplier development.
- Demonstrated skills in managing supplier performance, risk mitigation, and handling complex commercial engagements.
- In-depth knowledge of PCBA-level components and upstream electronics supply chains.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management abilities within a global context.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and similar data analysis tools.
- A proactive self-starter who works autonomously, influences effectively, and thrives in dynamic, technically complex settings.
- Project management experience is beneficial.
