Introduction
We warmly welcome candidates from across the nation to apply for a role at the Christchurch City Council. Join our Professional and Technical Services Design Unit, a multi-disciplinary team comprising experts in design, construction, and surveying dedicated to developing innovative, sustainable public infrastructure and buildings with a strong focus on project excellence and teamwork.
Role Overview
As a Structural Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic, cooperative team with direct involvement alongside a wide array of infrastructure design experts. You'll contribute to important projects impacting the city's public structures including:
- Transport infrastructure such as retaining walls, pole foundations, and bridges
- Marine constructions including jetties, wharves, and coastal defenses
- Three waters infrastructure such as culverts, drains, reservoirs, and pump stations
- Community buildings of small to medium scale
- Structures associated with parks, arts, heritage, and recreational facilities
Reporting to the Team Leader for Structural Engineering, your responsibilities will involve:
- Delivering structural design services for the Council’s capital projects
- Offering both pre-design investigations and post-design structural consultation to internal business units
- Managing projects and overseeing construction contracts
- Supporting senior structural engineers as well as the broader Technical Services and Design teams
Candidate Profile
- Holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or an equivalent degree
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or near completion, and membership in a relevant professional body such as MIPENZ
- Possesses at least six years of relevant post-graduate experience in structural engineering within civil and building disciplines
- Has a minimum of three years working in a similar role within a large-scale, complex organisation
- Experienced in consulting and managing internal and external stakeholder partnerships
- Experience with municipal infrastructure structures is highly advantageous

Additional Details
- Work Hours: Between 37.5 and 40 hours weekly
- Positions Available: Two permanent full-time roles
- Base Location: Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street
- Salary Range: Annual salary band from $105,450 to $117,167 for a 40-hour week, dependent upon qualifications and experience
