Chief Engineer

Job Overview

The Chief Engineer oversees all engineering and maintenance functions to ensure the upkeep of the building, grounds, and physical infrastructure with a primary focus on safety, security, and asset protection. This leadership role includes budget management, handling capital expenditure projects, preventive maintenance scheduling, and energy efficiency initiatives. Ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and leading the emergency response team for facility-related issues are also critical duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of relevant experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related field, including technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing systems; OR
• Associate degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related discipline with 2 years of professional experience and relevant technical training.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering operations during the absence of the Director of Engineering.
• Manage the physical plant including equipment for refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety.
• Ensure all equipment is operated safely, efficiently, and effectively.
• Implement and oversee a preventative maintenance program for rooms and facilities.
• Enforce compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Control departmental expenses to meet or surpass budget goals.
• Oversee procurement of equipment, materials, and furnishings.
• Inspect facilities to assess necessary repair, renovations, or replacement projects.
• Direct daily engineering operations.
• Maintain accurate logs and documentation as required.
• Manage scheduling and evaluation of maintenance activities.
• Address guest complaints and foster a culture of exceptional customer support.
• Empower team members to deliver excellent service and build positive guest relations.
• Prioritize maintenance needs aligning with property goals and ensure clear communications across responsibilities.
• Promote employee engagement by recognizing achievements and encouraging collaborative relationships.
• Administer equitable treatment and feedback for employees while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and property policies.
• Oversee enforce disciplinary procedures aligned with standard operating procedures.
• Lead emergency preparedness and response training for staff.
