Construction Project Manager

About the Role

We are searching for a Construction Project Manager based in Columbus, OH, to oversee commercial and industrial ground-up construction projects. This role involves managing every project phase from initial preconstruction through to project closeout. Our client is a growing general contractor with strong ties to real estate development, offering diverse project exposure including third-party and internally developed works focusing on commercial, industrial, warehouse, build-to-suit, and tenant improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead projects through all stages, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor coordination, owner communication, and thorough documentation.
• Direct ground-up construction efforts with a solid grasp of sitework, utilities, structural foundations, slab, building envelope, and sequencing early construction phases.
• Collaborate closely with field superintendents to ensure alignment with schedule, budget, quality standards, and safety practices.
• Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, pay applications, meeting records, and communications with owners and subcontractors.
• Create and maintain detailed project schedules; identify and resolve potential conflicts proactively.
• Support procurement activities including buyouts, scope evaluation, subcontractor negotiations, and ongoing cost management.
• Develop strong working relationships with owners, design professionals, subcontractors, internal staff, and development partners.
• Provide regular updates to leadership on project status, risks, financial status, and client requirements.
• Cultivate a positive team environment emphasizing accountability, collaboration, and problem-solving.
• Assist in process improvement initiatives as the company grows.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in commercial construction, with at least 2 years in project management, assistant project management, or senior project engineering roles.
• Hands-on experience managing or supporting ground-up commercial construction projects.
• Detailed knowledge of sitework, civil coordination, foundations, structural components, building envelopes, and project sequencing.
• Experience in industrial, warehouse, commercial office, retail, healthcare, education, or multifamily construction is advantageous.
• Proficiency in construction management software such as Procore, scheduling tools, and project documentation systems.
• Ability to efficiently handle budgets, schedules, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and subcontractor coordination.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with field teams, owners, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and leadership.
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach suitable for a smaller, entrepreneurial environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; substantial relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary ranging from $105,000 to $140,000 depending on experience.
