This role aims to deliver a comprehensive guidance and counseling program catering to the social, emotional, educational, and occupational needs of students at Cityscape Schools.
Job Details
The Counselor, reporting directly to the Principal, is classified as an exempt professional position.
Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Guidance & Counseling, preferably with a School Counseling Endorsement and a valid Texas Teaching Certificate, is desired for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the school’s K-12 Comprehensive Guidance Program aligned with the high school curriculum.
- Advise students individually and in groups on educational and career planning.
- Monitor students on low-grade lists each marking period and collaborate with students and parents to create success plans.
- Plan and promote programs that support academic, social, and emotional development, such as fairs, honors assemblies, graduation activities, and scholarships.
- Conduct bi-semester meetings with seniors and provide parents with updates on graduation progress.
- Support students with disciplinary, attendance, or academic challenges through referrals from staff or parents.
- Ensure students understand graduation and college admission criteria, including NCAA requirements for athletes.
- Guide course selection based on student interests, abilities, and career aims.
- Assist students in formulating post-secondary educational plans and completing college application processes.
- Organize standardized testing opportunities and explain results to students and parents as needed.
- Assist with preparing diploma lists and identifying honor graduates for ceremonies.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate information in student cumulative records.
- Make necessary schedule adjustments to align with students’ educational and career plans.
- Facilitate small group sessions targeting students with shared needs.
- Consult and act as a resource for students, staff, and parents on developmental concerns and coordinate referrals for specialized meetings such as Child Study and Special Education.
- Manage Section 504 plans.
- Engage teachers to understand and support students with physical or emotional challenges.
- Refer students and families to relevant school and community resources.
- Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities to support the effective high school guidance curriculum.
- Review and update the school guidance and counseling program.
- Contribute to district-wide assessment program development and interpret career guidance assessments.
- Pursue continued professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
