About the Role
Turner Companies is looking for a skilled Interior Designer to join their Design team as a Design Coordinator. This position involves guiding homebuyers through selecting finishes for their new residences while collaborating closely with design, architecture, and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution. The role focuses on delivering an exceptional customer experience tailored to individual lifestyles, budgets, and design preferences, along with maintaining accurate documentation and clear communications throughout construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct personalized design consultations with homebuyers, assisting them in choosing both interior and exterior finish options in a friendly and informative atmosphere.
- Help homeowners select materials and finishes that fit their lifestyle, budget constraints, architectural style, and community aesthetic.
- Specify finishes for both inventory and specification homes.
- Create look books and finish packages specifically for inventory homes.
- Prepare, update, and upload comprehensive construction documents for each project.
- Record and manage homeowner selections within project management software, ensuring complete accuracy.
- Support architects by making non-structural drafting changes such as finish schedules, annotations, plan dimensions, and updates using AutoCAD.
- Produce revised plan sets as needed during design and construction phases.
- Join framing walkthroughs, site visits, and jobsite inspections to verify design accuracy and assist construction teams.
- Cooperate closely with design colleagues, field teams, vendors, and builders to uphold and communicate design intent effectively.
- Provide assistance to other Design Coordinators to ensure consistent customer experience across community sites.
- Maintain organization of the Design Center, including managing finish samples and the materials library.
- Keep updated on current residential design trends, building products, and materials.
- Perform additional assigned duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture is mandatory.
- Preferred two to five years of experience in residential interior design or homebuilding.
- Strong understanding of residential construction processes, finish materials, and homebuilding operations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; ability to quickly adapt to specialized company software.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a focus on customer service and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
- Professional demeanor, sound judgment, integrity, and problem-solving aptitude.
- Capability to work independently while fostering teamwork among homeowners, vendors, and internal teams.
- Valid driver's license with mobility to visit active job sites within Knoxville and occasionally Chattanooga.
- Physical ability to walk construction sites, climb stairs, stand for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Availability for occasional evening or weekend client meetings when necessary.
