Financial Controller (Contract)

Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead our accounting operations and financial reporting. This full-time remote contract role based in Uruguay involves transitioning our accounting from outsourced services to a fully integrated internal finance department. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will manage the General Ledger, supervise bookkeeping, and develop robust accounting processes to ensure timely and precise financial disclosures.

Key Responsibilities

• Take complete accountability for the General Ledger's accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts regularly.
• Guide the migration from external accounting services to an in-house finance function.
• Oversee monthly close activities, reconciliations, and verify financial accuracy.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and executive reports.
• Evaluate Profit & Loss and overall financial performance across departments.
• Manage Accounts Payable and Receivable teams, including invoice, payroll, and vendor payment review.
• Supervise and mentor the bookkeeping staff.
• Monitor cash flow, conduct bank reconciliations, and ensure compliance with payroll taxes, sales taxes, and year-end reporting.
• Maintain strict confidentiality for sensitive financial records and company data.

Qualifications and Skills

• Demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Accountant with complete control over the General Ledger.
• Proficient with month-end closings and comprehensive financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience using QuickBooks.
• Proven leadership in managing accounting or bookkeeping teams.
• Strong grasp of accounting standards and internal financial controls.
• Exceptional integrity in handling confidential financial information.
• Analytical, organized, and skilled in problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting with advanced English communication skills (C1/C2).

Preferred Experience

• Leading accounting system transitions or process optimization initiatives.
• Familiarity with project accounting software like BigTime.
• Background in professional services such as construction, architecture, or engineering.
• Experience in luxury architecture, interior design, or upscale residential design sectors is highly valued.
• CPA or equivalent qualifications are an asset.

Additional Information

• The position starts immediately and works U.S. business hours remotely from Uruguay.
• Compensation ranges from $2,000 to $4,000 USD per month.
• Initial engagement is a three-month contractor trial period, with potential for long-term employment based on performance and organizational needs.
