Job Overview
The Flight Dispatcher is responsible for creating timely, safe, and efficient operational flight plans and pre-flight briefings for both scheduled and unscheduled flights within the airline's network, ensuring compliance with company policies and aviation regulatory requirements. This role supports operational control and dispatch reliability by addressing irregular operations and emergencies, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently prepare, approve, and release operational flight plans for designated flights in accordance with regulatory standards and company procedures.
- Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including route assessment, weather analysis, evaluation of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), fuel calculation, identification of alternate airports, and considerations of Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and Configuration Deviation List (CDL) items along with performance constraints.
- Continuously monitor flights from dispatch release until arrival, maintaining situational awareness throughout.
- Maintain proactive communications with flight crews, Operations Control Center (OCC), and ground teams regarding operational updates.
- Address irregular operations (IROPs) within scope and escalate as required.
- Ensure flight planning and dispatch activities adhere strictly to company procedures, authorized systems, and approved frameworks.
- Promptly escalate operational disruptions, irregularities, or safety issues to the Dispatch Manager or designated authority.
- Coordinate consistently with OCC teams to align operational decisions with centralized flight control policies.
- Support real-time flight monitoring and share necessary updates with OCC stakeholders following established communication channels.
- Maintain accuracy and regulatory compliance in all flight planning outputs, abiding by company and operational standards.
- Facilitate smooth operational transitions during shift changes by ensuring thorough handovers and documentation within the OCC.
- Identify and report any operational inefficiencies, data inconsistencies, or system malfunctions through formal escalation and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure full compliance with OCC governance structures, roles, responsibilities, and delegation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Aviation, Aeronautical Studies, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Hold a valid Flight Dispatcher License recognized or issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) or an equivalent authority.
- Proven ability to independently plan flights and handle irregular operations efficiently.
- Capability to work autonomously with full responsibility for assigned flight tasks.
- Sound decision-making skills within regulatory and company frameworks.
- Proficiency with Flight Planning systems, Flight Monitoring systems, NOTAM databases, weather information tools, email communication, and ACARS technology.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- Willingness and ability to operate in a 24/7 Operations Control Center environment with shift work.
- Preferable experience of over 3 years in airline flight dispatch or Operations Control Center operations.
- Experience managing time-sensitive and disruption scenarios is valued.
