Role Overview

The Junior Software Engineer position is a permanent role based in Toronto, ON with a hybrid work model. This entry-level, practical role focuses on developing scalable applications and services under guidance, emphasizing coding fundamentals, development best practices, and exposure to cutting-edge tools including AI-assisted workflows.

Team and Responsibilities

The role is part of the Frontier Engineering team, specializing in innovating and accelerating delivery through generative AI and modern engineering methodologies. The team transforms architecture and business needs into functional solutions by building prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and production-ready platforms, embedding best practices in AI-assisted software engineering, automation, security, and quality.

• Develop and maintain software features with mentorship from senior engineers.
• Produce clean, readable, and testable code.
• Help build APIs, backend services, and frontend components.
• Participate in debugging, testing, and resolving software issues.
• Learn and apply coding standards and software development best practices.
• Collaborate with team members during design and implementation phases.
• Utilize AI-driven development tools and modern workflows to enhance productivity.
• Contribute to technical documentation and related artifacts as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum two years of experience in software development.
• Understanding of core programming concepts and data structures.
• Exposure to full-stack development technologies.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms or contemporary development tools.
• Experience with at least one programming language such as TypeScript or .NET (including SQL).
• Knowledge of web development fundamentals including frontend, backend, and APIs.
• Basic proficiency with version control systems like Git.
• Demonstrated eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt.
• Understanding of APIs and basic software integration principles.
• Hands-on experience using AI programming tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from $58,000 to $96,000 annually, with eligibility for a bonus program. Deloitte evaluates compensation competitively across industries and recognizes individual strengths and contributions.
