Mechanical Design Engineer - CATIA

Role Overview

Quest Global is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong CATIA V5 experience for design work in rail/loco/train, automotive, or aerospace environments. The role focuses on converting lead inputs into detailed 3D models, drawings, and product documentation while ensuring the design is technically sound and ready for manufacturing.

Key Duties

• Create an initial 3D concept model in CATIA V5 based on guidance from the team lead.
• Arrange and participate in design and verification reviews with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Evaluate feasibility and production fitment during the verification stage.
• Revise the concept using feedback received during design reviews.
• Develop the final detailed 3D model and place it correctly within the car structure.
• Share the model with the designer for validation and incorporate their comments into the design.
• Prepare 2D drawings from the approved 3D model.
• Compile parts lists, specifications, and article creation details in the EPR system.
• Confirm that all files are complete and correct from both technical and administrative perspectives.
• Provide daily progress updates and issue tracking to the Concept team coordinator.
• Apply basic engineering design principles across project tasks.
• Carry out internal quality checks individually and with the team to ensure defect-free outputs.

Technical Requirements

• 2 to 5 years of design experience in rail/loco/train, automotive, or aerospace domains.
• Working knowledge of rolling stock design, loco cab design, or train interiors design.
• Ability to build detailed concepts independently.
• Capability to perform hand calculations and basic analysis to support proposed designs.
• Experience supporting validation of assemblies and different installations for loco cab or train interior design.
• Ability to define components and assemblies for subsystems aligned with manufacturing and assembly concepts.
• Understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis and the ability to suggest practical solutions that fit manufacturing limits.
• Capability to study existing designs and propose retrofit solutions or modifications.
• Knowledge of fastener selection for different assemblies.
• Strong drawing reading ability and familiarity with dimensioning standards.
• Good command of GD&T.
• Hands-on experience with CATIA V5 and PLM tools such as Enovia for 3D modelling, 2D drafting, and product structure management.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, material properties, heat treatment, and surface coating.
• Awareness of regional rail industry standards.
