Role Overview
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer specializing in building systems to join our Calgary, Alberta team. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience and will contribute to design tasks, provide mentorship to junior engineers and designers, and collaborate on complex projects predominantly serving pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design documentation, drawings, and specs for disciplines including HVAC, dust collection, chilled water, heating water, steam, compressed air, controls, and plumbing systems.
- Create and refine engineering plans for building mechanical systems ensuring compliance with energy efficiency standards.
- Conduct studies and schematic designs of new and existing systems, perform operational analysis.
- Survey existing installations to enhance current systems or create new solutions integrating existing infrastructure.
- Prepare estimations of construction budgets for mechanical systems.
- Engage in site supervision and offer construction support services.
- Lead project management activities for MEP projects, defining scopes, budgets, staffing alongside project managers.
- Develop client partnerships to grasp project needs fully.
- Ensure technical quality and interdisciplinary coordination of deliverables.
- Support the development and training of the mechanical engineering team.
- Manage and review deliverables and project implementation quality.
- Draft scopes of work for mechanical or utility designs following client meetings and project reviews.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Professional engineering registration (P.Eng) with EGBC, APEGA, or APEGS.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering consulting experience; knowledge of food and beverage or pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors is a strong asset.
- Proficiency in designing HVAC systems and central utility systems such as steam, chilled water, and compressed air.
- Experience in material handling and dust collection system design is an advantage.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit software.
