Mission Operations Engineer - Space Services

Position Summary

We are looking for a proactive Mission Operations Engineer to join our Space Services and Operations Team in Alton, Hampshire. This hybrid role involves creating mission operation plans for a satellite cluster facilitating multiple data collections daily. The role demands comprehensive knowledge in spacecraft operations and systems engineering, utilizing mission planning tools to arrange satellite data collection tasks and coordinating with third-party providers for additional satellite data acquisition.

Key Duties

• Develop mission operation schedules for a cluster of satellites managing multiple daily data collects.
• Work within satellite operational constraints including power, memory, and thermal limits to optimize scheduling.
• Utilize Customer User Interface tools to query tasking requests and results.
• Monitor the progress of data delivery and report discrepancies between planned and actual collects.
• Address operational issues by raising tickets with the Support Desk as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

• Background in Spacecraft Operations or Spacecraft Systems Engineering.
• Experience in reviewing system limitations such as power usage, memory capacity, and thermal management.
• Capability to prepare and execute payload and mission operation plans.
• Competency in translating mission requirements into conflict-free satellite schedules.
• Familiarity with JSON, relational databases, and preferably Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Ability to multitask and perform effectively under pressure in a live operational environment.

Additional Information

While knowledge of ITIL practices or a service background is beneficial, it is not mandatory for this role. The position supports hybrid working arrangements to help balance professional and personal life and promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment. Applicants must meet security and export control criteria, including a minimum of Baseline Personnel Security Standard, with some roles requiring extended UK residency for vetting.
