About the Company
Beantown Biotech, a contract research organization located in Billerica, MA, specializes in preclinical in vitro drug discovery services. The company partners with diverse biotechnology firms to develop plate-based assays, conduct compound screenings, investigate mechanisms of action, and evaluate biophysical and biochemical interactions.
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and self-driven assay specialist to join our research team. This role involves designing, optimizing, and implementing plate-based assays spanning multiple therapeutic areas. The candidate will work collaboratively and play an integral role in assay creation and communicating scientific data and findings to partners effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and refine cellular and molecular plate-based assays to meet project objectives
- Analyze data independently and relay findings promptly to scientific collaborators
- Employ analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to adhere to project deadlines
- Enhance laboratory efficiency and throughput through automation technologies
- Author standard operating procedures (SOPs) and keep precise documentation and lab notebooks of experiments conducted
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 1 to 3 years, or Master’s degree with 1+ years, of laboratory experience in cell or molecular biology, pharmacology, or related discipline
- Proficient in culturing both adherent and suspension mammalian cells
- Experienced with cellular and molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting, quantitative PCR, transfection, transduction, and biophysical/biochemical assays
- Skilled at executing plate-based assays including luciferase, AlphaLisa, HTRF, MSD, ELISA, among others
- Competent in utilizing data analysis tools such as Excel, Prism, or similar software for plotting and interpretation
- Strong communication abilities, self-motivation, team collaboration skills, and capacity to manage multiple tasks
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience operating instruments like MSD, Monolith, Protein Simple (Jess), or QuantStudio
- Comfortable with high-throughput multi-mode plate readers (96- or 384-well formats)
- Hands-on experience with flow cytometry and/or high content imaging
