Position Overview
Based at Hob Moor Community Primary Academy in York, the Facilities Officer role offers a part-time schedule of 30 hours weekly, Monday to Friday from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, this role encompasses overseeing maintenance, porterage, and cleaning services on site to ensure high standards are consistently upheld. Flexibility in working hours is essential to fulfill the team's requirements.
Key Duties
- Handle planned and reactive maintenance tasks promptly, addressing all assigned helpdesk requests.
- Monitor utility usage effectively to optimize operations.
- Conduct general repairs and maintenance of the building structure and equipment.
- Identify, report, and resolve defects and maintenance needs.
- Perform porterage and caretaking activities including delivery handling, emergency cleaning, litter collection, weeding, waste removal, and arranging furniture.
- Supervise and induct subcontractors, ensuring compliance with risk assessments and method statements during work.
- Maintain the health, safety, and environmental standards to guarantee the building is safe and meets legal requirements.
- Engage in clear communication with the client, such as the head teacher or their deputy.
- Manage fire safety systems and related documentation as the Building Fire Officer.
- Execute operating and testing protocols for the hydrotherapy pool specific to Hob Moor.
- Operate as a key holder responsible for opening and closing the building, securing the premises and managing safe access during adverse weather.

- Essential qualifications and skills:
- Competency in computer applications, especially Microsoft Office.

- Eagerness to learn and grow professionally.
- Background in trade or substantial practical maintenance experience.
- Flexibility to work occasional out-of-hours as needed.
- Good understanding of current health and safety regulations.
- Preferred but not required qualifications:
- Experience working within an educational institution.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Possession of a valid UK driving licence.
- IOSH Managing Safely certification or equivalent.
- Pool Plant Operators qualification.
