Role Overview

We are recruiting a motivated Senior Power System Engineer to be part of the Worley Consulting Power Networks team in Auckland. This role focuses on supporting grid connection efforts for large-scale renewable energy projects within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). Working closely with the Power Systems Technical Director, the position involves power system analysis, regulatory submission preparation, modeling coordination, and ensuring compliance during commissioning. Exposure includes diverse renewable energy technologies such as wind, solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hybrid projects, and traditional synchronous generation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist clients throughout grid connection phases, from feasibility analysis to generator registration and commissioning.
  • Manage connection inquiries and applications (R0 and R1), prepare GPS documentation, compliance materials, and contribute consultant inputs.
  • Coordinate and participate in power system studies and grid modeling utilizing PSCAD, PSS®E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory software tools.
  • Support grid commissioning and GPS compliance including hold point testing, R2 model validation and reporting, and managing plant alterations under NER clause 5.3.9 and ESM Rules for Western Australia connections.
  • Draft technical documentation, detailed reports, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Collaborate with internal development, engineering, and project delivery teams for grid program planning and risk management.
  • Engage with stakeholders such as AEMO, Western Power, VicGrid, Network Service Providers, clients, and consultants alongside senior engineers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NEM and WEM regulatory frameworks, including NER, ESM Rules, and relevant network service provider procedures.
  • Mentor junior team members on grid connection, modeling, compliance, and regulatory tasks.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with power systems, grid studies, or renewable energy projects relevant to NEM and/or WEM markets.
  • Basic understanding of NEM/WEM frameworks, NER/ESM Rules, and network service provider connection criteria.
  • Familiarity with hold point testing and commissioning protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with PSCAD, PSS®E, and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory software.
  • Basic Python scripting knowledge beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with effective technical report writing capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and eagerness to learn and develop professionally.
