Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated academic leader to spearhead Software Engineering education and research at our institution. This full-time position involves leading academic programmes, integrating artificial intelligence into curriculum, and fostering robust partnerships with industry to advance both teaching and research endeavors.

Primary Duties

• Oversee the development and direction of Software Engineering programmes.
• Drive innovative research with active collaboration from industry partners.
• Embed AI technologies and methodologies into educational content and pedagogical practices.
• Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate instruction and supervise honours, Masters, and doctoral candidates.
• Maintain and enhance professional networks and community outreach initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will possess a relevant PhD and demonstrate significant teaching and research experience across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including proven success in supervising graduate students. They should have a strong history of securing competitive research funding and preferably experience leading academic teams. Additionally, a keen interest in leading AI integration within software engineering programmes and a willingness to support campus activities at both Hamilton and Tauranga locations are important.

Institutional Background

The School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Waikato features four disciplines, with the Software Engineering group excelling in human-centred computing, Internet of Things, and software correctness research. The school maintains close ties with Computer Science, particularly in Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. Accredited programmes span from Bachelor of Engineering through to PhD levels, recognized by the Washington and Seoul Accords.

Additional Information

• Workload: Full-time equivalent of 37.5 hours per week on our Hillcrest Campus in Hamilton, New Zealand.
• Salary Range:
  • Senior Lecturer: NZD 113,428 to 148,799 per annum based on competencies and experience.
  • Associate Professor: NZD 150,661 to 166,176 per annum commensurate with qualifications.
