Position Summary

We are seeking a Communications Specialist based in San Diego, CA, to aid a federal healthcare organization with strategic communications, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. This role involves crafting written and digital communications, coordinating media relations, managing social media, supporting executive messaging, and creating multimedia content, all aimed at promoting organizational awareness and mission success. Occasional travel to military treatment facilities across the U.S. West Coast, Guam, and Japan is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a variety of communication materials such as articles, newsletters, press releases, website content, and executive talking points.
• Design and support communication strategies aligned with organizational goals and stakeholder interests.
• Ensure messaging is clear, precise, and audience-appropriate.
• Assist with media relations and public affairs activities, fostering positive relationships with leadership, staff, and community partners.
• Manage and update digital channels including websites, emails, and social media platforms; analyze engagement metrics to refine communication approaches.
• Support multimedia efforts including photography, videography, graphic design, and digital media editing with standard software.
• Coordinate multiple communication projects to meet deadlines, collaborating across teams and supporting special organizational initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of three years of professional experience in public affairs, communications, or strategic communications.
• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to customize messaging for diverse audiences.
• Strong interpersonal aptitude and the capability to build collaborative relationships.
• Proven multitasking and organizational skills in fast-paced settings.
• Competence working both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with digital communication platforms and tools.
• Creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Understanding of social media management, content strategies, and audience engagement best practices.

Preferred Experience

• Background supporting Department of Defense, Defense Health Agency, Military Health System, or related federal healthcare organizations.
• Familiarity with military healthcare or military public affairs environments.
• Skills in Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
• Experience aiding executive and internal communications or strategic outreach programs.
