Role Overview
- Provide ongoing maintenance and enhancements to embedded products already released.
- Perform root-cause investigations and debugging for customer-reported issues and field failures.
- Design, implement, and validate firmware improvements, fixes, and updates.
- Assess risks and impacts related to design modifications, component replacements, and firmware changes.
- Support initiatives aimed at addressing component obsolescence, enhancing product resilience, and reducing costs.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, quality assurance, manufacturing, and product management to develop sustainable solutions.
- Produce and update technical documentation such as design specs, test cases, and engineering reports.
- Assist manufacturing, qualification, and production engineering activities as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- At least 5 years’ experience in embedded systems or firmware development.
- Proven expertise in developing and supporting real-time embedded systems.
- Experience in product sustenance, customer issue troubleshooting, or ongoing engineering support is preferred.
- Background in industrial automation, communication products, or control systems is an advantage.
Technical Competencies
- Proficient in programming languages C and C++.
- Hands-on experience with 32-bit microcontrollers, ideally ARM-based architectures.
- Strong knowledge of RTOS-based embedded applications.
- Skilled in developing low-level device drivers and board support packages.
- Ability to debug embedded hardware and software problems effectively.
- Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git), static code analysis, and Agile methodologies.
- Understanding of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, CAN, USB, and other serial interfaces is beneficial.
- Experience with automated and unit testing frameworks is an added plus.
