Position Summary

The HYCO Shift Operator role involves managing daily operations for the Air Products Qudra (APQ) facility in Jubail. This includes overseeing the Hydrogen Steam Methane Reformer, CO2 Removal and Compression Units, Auxiliary PSA, Membrane Units, utility systems, and pipeline networks that supply hydrogen, steam, and CO2. The operator reports to the HYCO Lead or Shift Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and associated CO2 recovery and treatment plants in line with operational procedures.
  • Manage pipeline operations for hydrogen, steam, CO2, oxygen, and nitrogen supplies safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in plant commissioning, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to quality assurance standards.
  • Provide operational guidance to maintain equipment safety, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Optimize plant production based on management and engineering input to maximize profitability while ensuring safety and reliability.
  • Complete safety permits, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to execute corrective maintenance and enhance plant reliability.
  • Maintain clear communication with the Shift Supervisor and other shifts regarding production status and operational issues.
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements and promote a strong safety culture through compliance with company programs and standards.
  • Support investigations and root cause analyses for operational issues to implement effective solutions.
  • Engage with customers at board level to ensure demand satisfaction and foster strong relationships.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Process Operations preferred; Associate Technical Degree with relevant experience also considered.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in plant operations, with specialized knowledge of Hydrogen, SMR, and acid gas units advantageous.
  • Capability to reach Level 1 (Board Level Operator) competence within 2 to 4 years.
  • Understanding of local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively between operations, maintenance teams, and customers.
  • Committed to teamwork, diversity, and employee involvement.

Additional Information

All operators will be assessed based on experience, leadership abilities, and years of service. Those with 5 to 15+ years of operations and leadership experience may be considered for advancement to lead or supervisory roles after completing the operator progression course.
