Role Overview
The IPR Lead at Bert Labs will oversee and implement the company’s intellectual property strategies. This leadership role demands strong expertise in IP management combined with the ability to influence, collaborate, and shape organizational culture. The role includes advising internal teams and managing all facets of intellectual property protection and patent prosecution to safeguard Bert Labs’ innovations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the processing of invention disclosures and determine optimal intellectual property protection strategies, including thorough patent application prosecution.
- Plan, scope, estimate, track, and execute internal IPR projects within set timelines.
- Conduct patent searches and analyses, manage drafting, filing, prosecution, freedom-to-operate assessments, and related activities.
- Respond to examination reports and office actions; independently represent Bert Labs in hearings at the Indian Patent Office.
- Support patent opposition proceedings, providing technical analysis and research assistance to litigation teams.
- Make key patenting decisions collaboratively with inventors and the CEO, including international filings, prosecution, patent analysis, and claim charting.
- Coordinate with external patent counsel and manage inventor meetings related to patent processes.
- Engage with government bodies and industry organizations in India to help formulate IPR policies and promote awareness.
- Administer day-to-day IP portfolio management, including maintenance and docketing.
- Lead the establishment of a comprehensive IP legal services framework.
- Manage additional intellectual property domains including designs and trademarks.
Requirements
- 15–20 years of proven leadership experience in intellectual property rights management.
- Experience working in reputed companies such as Bosch, Siemens, Samsung, Honeywell, ABB, Microsoft, Adobe, Broadcom, Qualcomm, IBM, Amazon, Oracle, Google, Apple, Meta, Mitsubishi, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, or top IP law firms in India and globally.
- Advanced degrees in engineering, science or technology from premier technical institutes like IITs, BITS, NITs, or equivalent institutions internationally.
- Law degree (LLB/LLM) from distinguished law schools in India, USA, Europe, UK, or Singapore.
- Registered Patent Agent qualification.
- Strong understanding of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Embedded Electronics.
- Expertise in prior art analysis, identifying novel and inventive elements, drafting legal arguments, modifying claims, and related patent prosecution tasks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Indian patent law with practical experience interfacing with patent examiners and controllers.
- Familiarity and hands-on experience with patent laws and prosecution procedures in the USA, Europe, Singapore, and the UK.
