Role Overview
The Lead Architect will spearhead architectural design and execution for infrastructure-related buildings and facilities from initial concept through comprehensive design development and construction assistance. This position demands technical expertise, coordination across multiple disciplines, client engagement, obtaining necessary governmental approvals, and leading architectural teams to ensure project delivery aligns with Qatar's regulations, international norms, and client requirements.
The focus lies in infrastructure initiatives such as transportation hubs, utility buildings, pumping stations, substations, district cooling plants, depots, tunnels, public spaces, and other municipal infrastructure components.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead architectural design for infrastructure projects spanning concept to detailed design and tender preparation.
- Create innovative, sustainable, and practical architectural solutions.
- Develop and review architectural plans, including layouts, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and specifications.
- Ensure seamless integration of architectural designs with civil, structural, MEP, landscape, and utilities engineering disciplines.
- Conduct design reviews and perform quality assurance checks prior to submittals.
- Oversee design for various infrastructure facilities such as pumping stations, water reservoirs, utility buildings, electrical substations, district cooling plants, wastewater treatment plants, metro and rail stations, bus depots, operation and maintenance centers, control buildings, service centers, public realm structures, highway service facilities, utility tunnels, municipal buildings, and related ancillary infrastructure.
- Lead and manage architectural teams working on multiple infrastructure projects, plan resources and project timelines, monitor progress, quality, deliverables, and budgets.
- Coordinate design outputs with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to value engineering and constructability assessments.
- Identify potential risks in design and propose effective mitigation plans.
- Engage regularly with clients and hold design workshops to present concepts and technical solutions.
- Coordinate approvals and interactions with government authorities.
- Support preparation of proposals and technical presentations and address client and authority feedback promptly.
- Ensure design compliance with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), National Building Regulations, Ashghal Design Manuals, Civil Defence Requirements, Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS/GSAS), International Building Code (IBC), NFPA Standards, British and ISO Standards, and universal accessibility standards.
- Lead BIM coordination for architectural disciplines, enforce BIM Execution Plans, conduct clash detection with other disciplines, and review Revit models before issuance.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to architects, BIM modelers, and CAD technicians through reviews, coaching, recruitment support, training, and performance evaluations.
- Promote adherence to best practices and continuous improvement culture.
Qualifications and Experience
- Mandatory Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
- Preferred Master’s Degree in Architecture or Urban Design.
- Registration as an Architect with a recognized professional body is preferred.
- At least 12 to 15 years of experience in architectural design.
- A minimum of 5 years serving in a Lead Architect capacity.
- Proven extensive experience in infrastructure design consultancy projects.
- Demonstrated track record delivering major infrastructure projects within Qatar or the GCC region.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering consultancy teams.
Technical Proficiencies
- Expertise in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Familiarity with SketchUp, Rhino (preferred), Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong capability in BIM Level 2 practices including clash detection, model coordination, BIM Execution Planning, and digital design management.
