The Position

Working from the Whangārei Hospital campus, you will oversee several remediation, upgrade, and infrastructure projects running at the same time and at different delivery stages. Individual projects are usually valued between $2 million and $5 million, while larger programmes may reach up to $50 million. You will manage work from early planning through to completion, keeping delivery aligned with scope, budget, schedule, and quality targets, and also handling closeout and post-occupancy review activities.

The role requires close collaboration with consultants, contractors, clinical teams, and wider stakeholders. You will coordinate governance, reporting, risk management, and overall delivery while ensuring project work fits within the demands of a live healthcare environment. Responsibilities also include feasibility work, procurement oversight, contractor coordination, regulatory and internal compliance, and final handover of completed work.

What You Will Need

To succeed in this role, you should bring substantial project management experience and the ability to deliver multiple workstreams across different settings. A background in engineering, construction, or consultancy is preferred, ideally with exposure to healthcare or government environments.

You will need strong capability in delivering projects on time and within budget, a solid understanding of New Zealand building codes and compliance expectations, and working knowledge of MS Project for planning and reporting. Strong relationship-building skills are essential, along with experience managing contractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent communication skills, the ability to influence decisions, and a practical, outcome-focused approach are important. You should be comfortable working in a complex, changing environment, managing competing priorities, and contributing positively in collaborative teams.
