Role Overview and Key Responsibilities
The Purchasing Officer will be responsible for executing purchase orders to guarantee the prompt procurement of provisions, technical stores, and various required materials. This role involves sourcing items such as spare parts, cables, and equipment from approved vendors, negotiating prices, obtaining quotations, and confirming purchase orders. Coordination with suppliers and logistics providers is essential to monitor shipments and ensure on-time delivery aligning with vessel schedules. The officer will maintain detailed purchasing records including quotations, purchase orders, and invoices while monitoring inventory levels in cooperation with the operations team to ensure timely stock replenishment. Establishing and nurturing strong supplier relationships is crucial to assure quality, competitive pricing, and dependable delivery. Compliance with company policies, client protocols, and delivery timelines is mandatory.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.
- Demonstrated experience in purchasing or procurement roles, preferably within marine, technical, or industrial sectors.
- Knowledgeable in sourcing technical equipment, spare parts, and related supplies.
- Strong negotiation and effective communication skills for supplier interaction.
- Familiar with procurement procedures, documentation, and inventory control.
- Ability to handle pressure and meet strict deadlines, particularly concerning vessel requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, notably Excel.
- Excellent organizational aptitude and attention to detail.
- Good command of spoken and written English.
- Capable of collaborating across departments and efficiently overseeing supplier relations.
