Safety Engineer

About the Role

We seek a detail-oriented and proactive Safety Engineer with substantial experience in the construction sector, specifically focusing on steel structure projects in the UAE. This role demands ensuring strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental standards and supporting project execution to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain strict compliance with project-specific HSE plans, UAE safety laws, and client requirements.
• Create and review comprehensive Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
• Recognize hazards related to construction practices like working at heights, excavation, lifting operations, and hot work activities.
• Deliver safety inductions for newly hired personnel.
• Organize training sessions on personal protective equipment (PPE) use, emergency protocols, and safe working methods.
• Oversee and audit Permit to Work (PTW) for critical tasks such as confined space entry, lifting, and hot work, ensuring proper issuance, validation, and closure.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, compiling detailed incident reports with root cause analyses and remedial measures.
• Ensure all workers utilize appropriate PPE — helmets, gloves, harnesses, etc., correctly.
• Inspect safety apparatus including scaffolding, lifting equipment, fire extinguishing devices, and machinery safeguards.
• Keep up-to-date HSE documentation like inspection and audit records, training logs, and incident registers.
• Implement and communicate emergency response strategies, coordinating drills for fire, evacuation, and rescue scenarios.
• Collaborate with first aid teams and emergency responders effectively.
• Ensure adherence to environmental legislation applicable within the UAE.

Educational & Professional Credentials

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Certification in professional HSE qualifications such as NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, OSHA, or equivalents.

Essential Skills

• In-depth knowledge of steel structure fabrication, installation, and construction processes.
• Strong organizational and project coordination capabilities.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Capacity to perform effectively under pressure and adhere to project timelines.
• Competent in comprehensive documentation and reporting.

Preferred Experience

• At least five years' experience in HSE roles within the UAE construction industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in steel structure fabrication and erection projects.
• Exposure to commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or high-rise building projects.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements from ADNOC, DEWA, DM, Trakhees, or other UAE-specific client HSE standards.
