Role overview
Swale Academies Trust is looking for an energetic and reliable Site Assistant to support the Site Maintenance team at Westlands School in Sittingbourne. The post is a full-time, all-year-round position for 37 hours per week, with the exact working pattern to be agreed at interview. The role should start as soon as possible, and interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 3 August 2026.
What the job involves
In this position, you will help keep the school buildings and grounds safe, secure, and well maintained for staff, pupils, and visitors. The work will include everyday repair tasks, site security, equipment and supplies checks, and practical support around the school. Some travel between Swale Academies Trust schools in Kent may be required, and travel expenses can be claimed where applicable.
- Carry out routine repair and maintenance work across the site.
- Make sure cleaning materials and equipment are stored correctly and kept in good condition.
- Support the security of the premises, including opening and locking up the site.
- Check and operate systems such as heating, cooling, lighting, and security equipment.
- Provide general porterage support, including moving furniture and equipment.
What the school is looking for
The successful candidate will bring practical know-how, a hands-on attitude, and the confidence to work across a range of maintenance tasks. Experience in a school setting or in the maintenance/building sector would be valuable. You should also be comfortable working as part of a team, communicating with others, and delivering good customer service.
Expected practical skills include basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, decorating, and deep cleaning. A sound understanding of health and safety is also important, along with a willingness to take part in training and ongoing professional development.
Pay and working pattern
The salary for this role is £25,316 to £26,378 per year, paid on the SAT B scale. The job is for 37 hours each week and runs throughout the year rather than term time only.
