About the Role
The Social Media Manager position at Lockheed Martin is pivotal for developing and refining the enterprise-wide social media strategy to support the business goals, brand positioning, and corporate reputation. This role leads efforts to ensure alignment of social media channels with the company’s core narrative, optimizing communications strategies through integrated campaigns, audience insights, and continual refinement.
As part of the Integrated Campaign Team (ICT), the manager collaborates extensively with Corporate Communications, Business Area communications, Executive Communications, Government Affairs, Marketing, and Visual Communications to craft unified communications that leverage paid, earned, owned, and shared media. The role demands content that is audience-centric, data-backed, and aligned to strategic priorities while upholding editorial quality and brand consistency.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that reflects Lockheed Martin’s priorities and objectives, contributing to ICT initiatives.
- Work closely with Corporate Communications and Business Areas to translate campaigns into platform-specific social media tactics and schedules.
- Coordinate with Executive Communications, Media Relations, Government Affairs, Marketing, Visual and Digital Communications teams to execute integrated campaigns.
- Manage editorial planning and maintain a company-wide social media content calendar aligned with business goals, campaign timelines, and timely communications.
- Create, edit, and publish engaging content tailored for each social platform, ensuring consistent brand messaging and voice.
- Monitor social media discussions, audience trends, competitor actions, and industry shifts to leverage engagement opportunities and anticipate issues.
- Analyze social media metrics to provide actionable insights aimed at enhancing audience interaction and meeting business targets.
- Ensure editorial quality, accessibility compliance, brand uniformity, and publishing governance across all social channels.
- Support Business Area social media teams by sharing best practices, fostering alignment, and distributing insights organization-wide.
- Drive innovation by experimenting with new content types, platforms, AI tools, and evolving storytelling methods.
- Prepare reports and dashboards to communicate performance, audience analysis, and strategic recommendations to communications leadership.
- Assist enterprise communications during major company announcements and crisis management scenarios.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Proven expertise in creating and executing social media strategies within large, complex organizations.
- Experience managing enterprise-level social media platforms and related publishing software.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in analytics and reporting tools to evaluate and enhance communication strategies.
- A track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders to deliver integrated communications efforts.
- Exceptional multi-tasking abilities with strong attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience managing executive social media programs.
- Understanding of integrated communications planning across paid, earned, shared and owned media platforms.
- Skilled in employing social listening, audience research, and competitor benchmarking to guide strategies.
- Mastery of content governance, editorial planning, and standards for digital publishing.
- Ability to simplify complex technical or business concepts into clear, engaging narratives.
- Leadership and influence skills, particularly in cross-departmental, non-hierarchical environments.
- Open-mindedness toward experimenting with new technologies, AI-powered tools, and digital communication innovations.
- Background in regulated industries or multinational organizations is advantageous.
- Awareness of accessibility standards, digital governance policies, and enterprise brand management frameworks.
