Role Overview

The Washerman is tasked with the responsible management of washing and processing guests' laundry, hotel linens, uniforms, and various textile materials. This includes sorting items by fabric type, color, and soiling level, safely operating industrial laundry equipment, and ensuring that all items are treated according to quality, hygiene, and safety protocols. The role demands close attention to detail to maintain care and professionalism throughout all duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate industrial washing machines and laundry equipment while adhering to operating procedures.
• Sort laundry by category, fabric, color, and level of soiling to determine the appropriate washing process.
• Load and unload machines properly and select washing settings based on fabric and soiling.
• Monitor washing cycles to detect and address quality problems promptly.
• Inspect linens, uniforms, and guest laundry before and after washing to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Identify stains, damages, missing items, or special handling needs and report to supervisors.
• Handle delicate fabrics and special laundry items with care to prevent damage.
• Prevent loss, damage, or misprocessing of guest belongings and hotel property.
• Maintain accuracy in managing guest laundry and departmental linen.
• Use laundry chemicals as per manufacturer guidelines and hotel instructions, ensuring correct dosing and safe handling.
• Keep the washing area clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
• Work collaboratively with related departments such as Pressing, Dry Cleaning, Uniform Room, and Housekeeping.
• Support additional tasks like sorting, counting, folding, and transferring laundry during busy periods.
• Participate in team briefings, training, and initiatives aimed at improving quality and productivity.
• Contribute to achieving departmental service and productivity goals.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience in a washerman or laundry attendant role within hotels, resorts, or commercial laundry facilities is beneficial.
• Familiarity with industrial washing machines and laundry operational procedures.
• Basic understanding of fabrics, washing techniques, and laundry chemical usage.
• Capability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
• Basic knowledge of English is preferred for communication.
