Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time permanent basis, located at our East Melbourne offices. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this essential hands-on position manages the precise and prompt execution of the Club’s multi-faceted payroll operations, ensures adherence to statutory requirements, and oversees core financial controls that uphold the integrity of our financial data.
Key Duties
- Maintain the general ledger and integrate data from financial platforms such as payroll systems and CRM tools.
- Conduct reconciliation of balance sheet accounts monthly, including administration of the Fixed Asset Register.
- Manage monthly payroll for administrative personnel, aiding salary and annual leave forecasting.
- Handle fortnightly payroll processing for casual staff along with related journal entries and reconciliations.
- Support football player payroll management, including journal preparation and reconciliations, in collaboration with the Senior Financial Accountant.
- Prepare and file mandatory statutory reports including BAS, Payroll Tax, WorkCover, and Superannuation.
- Coordinate the annual FBT return alongside the Finance Manager or Senior Football Accountant.
- Oversee financial accounting and reporting for the Red & Blue Foundation and Melbourne Sports Operation, encompassing budgeting and stakeholder communication.
- Contribute to cashflow forecasting activities.
- Assist in the annual audit process.
- Support Human Resources with annual remuneration data including Workplace Gender Equality Agency reporting and internal surveys.
- Provide assistance with additional finance-related tasks as required by senior finance personnel.
Candidate Profile
- Possess tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or related disciplines.
- Holding or pursuing CPA or CA accreditation is strongly preferred.
- Have at least four years of professional experience in accounting roles.
- Demonstrate sound understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation laws.
- Exhibit intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Possess experience managing payroll processes.
- Be skilled in accounting software; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus.
- Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce is advantageous.
- Exhibit excellent relationship-building capabilities to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Show a proactive attitude with the focus on continuous process improvement and positive transformation.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Display excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Adapt well to evolving environments and demonstrate flexibility.
