Role overview
This position is focused on overseeing aircraft structural, paint, and machining work during shift operations across the Etihad fleet. The role uses Etihad’s GCAA CAR 145 maintenance approval to assess damage, determine repairs based on OEM guidance, and carry out final certification aligned with GCAA requirements to uphold safety standards.
Key accountabilities
- Inspect reported aircraft or engine damage and carry out the required repairs according to OEM instructions.
- Use the Structure Repair Manual (SRM) and Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) to evaluate damage and identify the correct repair method.
- Ensure that only the relevant and approved manuals and documents are referenced for the task.
- Check and certify structural repairs completed by structure technicians using the appropriate approval documents.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) when damage exceeds allowable limits.
- Maintain complete repair and inspection records in line with internal procedures and workflows.
- Direct the structures/paint team during the shift and allocate work as needed.
- Assess the need for permanent repairs and confirm that tools and materials are prepared in advance.
- Keep the work area orderly, safe, and clean at all times.
- Follow and enforce the Safety and Quality Management Manual (SQMM), take part in safety activities, and support a strong reporting culture by raising concerns about unsafe actions, unsafe conditions, or safety risks.
Qualifications and experience
- A degree in Aeronautical, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- Either 10 years of aviation experience with a degree or 15 years of experience without a degree is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in a team lead role is required.
- Formal training in aircraft structures and composites is mandatory.
- A valid B1 Aircraft Maintenance License is required as background.
- Strong working knowledge of SRM, CMM, and AMM is expected, preferably on EY fleet types such as A350, B787, B777, A320, and A380.
- Ability to assess damage and certify repairs in accordance with OEM and GCAA standards is required.
- Experience leading structures, paint, and machining work during shift operations is essential.
- Capability to communicate with MCC and ensure compliance with manuals and procedures is necessary.
- Must be able to document repairs using internal systems.
- Commitment to a clean, safe, and FOD-free workplace is important.
- Active participation in SQMM activities and safety reporting is expected.
- Mandatory Induction Training must be completed within 6 months of joining.
- A professional appearance and a strong safety-minded approach are required.
