Associate Mechanical Engineer

Job Overview

The Associate Mechanical Engineer role involves applying standard mechanical procedures to address routine engineering challenges. Under guidance from senior team members, the engineer will utilize foundational knowledge of mechanical theories, practices, and engineering processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of core mechanical engineering duties throughout various project phases
• Conduct detailed design tasks including engineering analyses and calculations for fundamental assignments
• Complete routine tasks under close supervision and mentorship
• Prepare detailed and precise design calculations, reports, and procedures
• Manage workload effectively to adhere to deadlines set by supervisors
• Communicate clearly, engage in active questioning, and confirm comprehension
• Familiarize oneself with quality assurance systems and documentation requirements
• Specify simple equipment types in line with process and project needs under guidance from lead engineers
• Implement relevant discipline-specific international standards and procedures related to static, rotating, packaged, or special equipment as per project demands
• Provide support to other disciplines by supplying necessary information upon request
• Complete drafting responsibilities including datasheet sketches and modification drawings
• Assist in reviewing drawings, documents, and inspection/test procedures supplied by vendors and manufacturers
• Support Mechanical Engineers and purchasing teams in evaluating technical and commercial bids
• Incorporate applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards in engineering work and decisions

Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to Project Lead Engineer and the Functional Supervisor or Engineering Manager, collaborating closely with engineers, design supervisors, and discipline-specific designers. Does not supervise other staff.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Master's degree is advantageous
• Experience of up to 3 years in the Oil and Gas sector
• Preferably registered as Engineer in Training (EIT) or affiliated with a professional engineering organization
• Proficient written and conversational English (minimum B2 proficiency)
• Demonstrates a quality-focused, deadline-oriented mindset
• Strong communication abilities and collaborative team attitude
• Willing to support colleagues and supervisors during periods of increased workload
• Committed to learning applicable standards, codes, design methodologies, and analysis techniques
